Thumbnails problem with BIG images

I have inline thumbnails turned on and I noticed that thumbnails show for pictures that are around 2Mb or smaller. However, for the pictures that are 6Mb or more the thumbnails are blank. I am assuming there is a setting somewhere that will allow previews of larger files?....or maybe I am looking at a server thing?
